Canon 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS

At the same time that I bought the nifty fifty I also grabbed the ultra wide angle Canon EF-S 10-18mm IS.  I thought the 18mm of my kit lens that came on the 80D was wide, but wow I was blown away with the ultra wide field of view on this lens!  It opened up an entirely new world to me as a photographer, and I couldn't wait to hit the road to make some creative photos.

I eventually learned the benefits of a wide angle lens and how to use it correctly, i.e. not just pointing up at the sky, and headed to Joshua Tree National Park for my trip with this lens.  The field of view is amazing and it is incredibly sharp.  When the light gets low, the Image Stabilization comes in handy to make sure shots down to even 1/10s were crystal clear.

The only thing I didn't particularly care for with the 10-18mm was that images felt very "stretched" when I would zoom out to 10 or 11mm.  When I traveled to Arches National Park, I was able to grab a lot of great images at the widest end.  However when a person was in the frame, the distortion became very apparent.  Therefore, if you are shooting anything that has people in the shot, I would say this lens is just OK, but not great.  Otherwise, it's a very cool, lightweight lens that'll give a brand new perspective to anyone moving from a kit lens.
